Discrimination

Discrimination takes place when an individual or a group of people is a treated less favourably than others based on one of the nine protected characteristics in the Equality Act (2010).  These characteristics are:  

  • age;  
  • disability; 
  •  gender reassignment;  
  • marriage and civil partnership;  
  • pregnancy and maternity;  
  • race;  
  • religion or belief (or no belief);  
  • sex;  
  • sexual orientation.
